When Bach was young, he arranged a number of concertos conveyed from Italy for harpsichord solos. Of these arrangements, the concerto BWV 974 second movement Adagio, adapted from Alessandro Marcello's (1669-1747) oboe concerto in D minor, is still performed today, often alone, as the repertoire of noted pianists such as Glenn Gould. At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, the song was incorporated into the program by Shoma Uno. The song is in the minor, but the last time it ends with a major chord, the contemporary sound and the depth of content that can't be seen as a 1708 work will be a captive of the song's appeal. It is a work worthy of performing with emotion.
