Delius was born in Bradford, a city in central England, in 1862, but it was a life of a turbulent man who changed his house to a point where he could not be said to be a composer of English origin. Born into a wealthy merchant family, he was a musical enthusiast, but his father sent him to offices in Germany, Sueden, France and Florida in the United States to take over his family in opposition to going to the musical path. But it is said that Delius had been dipping his work away and immersed in music. At last, his father reluctantly agreed to go to the music path and went to the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany. There is also an anecdote that the Norwegian composer Grieg convinced his father of the talent of Delius. However, he moved to Paris without being familiar with the German school style. It was after the age of 40 and the late-blooming life that he came to a head as a composer.
"Spring, Hearing the First Time Cuckoo" is his signature work in one of the "Two Works for Small Orchestra" composed at the age of 50 in 1912. By nature, the scene is depicted in an orchestra, with the singing of the birds superimposed on the gentle harmonies of the stringed instruments, but at Rent & Vivace they are arranged for piano and instrumental solos. It is easy to play and has a slightly faster tempo than the original song, but you can enjoy the sound of a beautiful chord progression and it is a gentle piece of music as if you are looking at an impressionist picture.
