Amilcare Ponchielli is an Italian opera composer born in 1834. He received a scholarship at the age of 9 to study music at the Milan Conservatory and composed his first symphony before he was 10 years old. His early career was unfortunate, but his opera work gradually made him famous, including the contract with La Scala in Milan. At the time, it was a popular composer, but the only work that is still being performed is the opera "La Gioconda," which premiered in 1876.
