Holst "Jupiter from the planet"
Holst "Jupiter from the planet"
Holst was a British composer born in 1874. The Suite for Great Orchestra, The Planets, Op. 32, is a representative work. This suite consists of seven movements, each given the name of a planet that is also equivalent to the gods that appear in Roman mythology. The subtitle of "Jupiter" The Bringer of Jollity is translated as the one who brings pleasure. And especially the famous melody of the middle part became a British patriotic song, and also a Church of England chant, and the artist Ayaka Hirahara arranged it for pop, and it was all the rage. It can be said that this song is more famous than Horst's own name, and it is very familiar to people other than classical fans.
The Lento & Vivace arrangement summarizes and delivers the whole of the song, not just the middle part. I know that the timing of the performance will be good if you read the piano accompaniment score while listening to the demo performance. Try Horst's masterpiece, which is passionate, lilting, dynamic and varied, and is playing and fun.
